In today’s fast-paced, self-focused society, the Church is often pulled into the same current of competition, division, and individualism. Sadly, one of the first Kingdom principles to fade under this pressure is collaboration– “working together, unity”.
But collaboration isn’t just a helpful tool; it’s a Kingdom mandate. It’s at the very heart of Jesus’ prayer in John 17:21, where He prays:
“That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us…”
This wasn’t a poetic wish. It was a cry from the heart of the Savior. Collaboration is Jesus’ heartbeat for His people. His vision for the Church was unity, a unity that reflects the very relationship between the Father and the Son.
Why Collaboration Matters in the Kingdom
When we don’t work together, we miss out on the big blessings God has for us, both as individuals and as a Church.
Instead of unity, we often see:
- People think in terms of “us vs. them.”
- People seek personal fame instead of Kingdom impact
- Trust is broken because of past betrayals
- Pride gets in the way of serving others
- People argue over small beliefs instead of focusing on what really matters
True collaboration is not about the collaborators themselves, their egos, opinions, positions, or titles. It is about something greater, God’s Kingdom. It demands total selflessness and spiritual maturity.
📖 Romans 12:3
“For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment…”
Apostle Paul knew that dying to self was the path to true unity. As we focus on the collective good over personal gain, we foster an atmosphere of trust, effectiveness, and Holy Spirit-led teamwork.
📖 Philippians 2:3-4
“Don’t do anything out of selfish ambition. Instead, be humble and think of others before yourself…”
What If Others Don’t Want to Collaborate?
Even when we pursue unity, others may not be ready or willing. That’s why it’s essential to:
🙏 Pray and fast for wisdom (James 1:5)
🕰️ Wait on God’s timing (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
🪞 Check your own heart—Why do you want to collaborate?
📖 Ask God to show your blind spots (Psalm 139:23-24)
❤️ Stay humble and patient
🙌 Let go of forced partnerships (Luke 9:5)
🤍 Don’t hold offense, Forgive (Ephesians 4:31-32)
🔗Be open to new connections (Proverbs 3:5-6)
🌱 Be faithful in small things, they often lead to bigger impact
📖Galatians 6:9 “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up”
How Leaders Can Enhance Collaboration
When leaders model collaboration, it ripples through the entire church or ministry. Here’s how leaders can come together to enhance collaboration:
1. Build Relationships Before Projects: Trust is the foundation of collaboration
2. Create Shared Vision: True unity dies when self is elevated
3. Start Small and Win Together: Small, shared wins build momentum and trust.
4. Honor Each Other’s Strengths: Unity is not uniformity.
5. Establish Clear, Kingdom-Centered Communication: Miscommunication causes offense.
6. Model Humility and Mutual Honor: The spirit of the leaders sets the tone.
7. Focus on the Big Picture: It’s not about “my church” or “your ministry.” It’s about God’s Kingdom.
Final Encouragement
Collaboration shows the heart of Jesus, honors the unity of the Spirit, and releases more power for Kingdom impact.
It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. When we walk in humility, love, and partnership, we become the answer to Jesus’ prayer in John 17.
The Kingdom is too big, too beautiful, and too important for anyone to carry alone.
Let’s walk together.
Let’s serve together.
Let’s build the Kingdom of God – TOGETHER.
