“Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! ” Revelation 19:1 (NKJV)
One of the clearest truths echoed throughout Scripture is this:
Salvation is not man’s invention; it is God’s intervention.
In the roar of heavenly worship recorded in Revelation 19, a powerful truth is proclaimed:
“Salvation belongs to our God.”
it’s a declaration of ownership. It’s a reminder that the very act of rescuing humanity from sin and eternal separation was God’s initiative, God’s plan, and God’s accomplishment
We begin this four-part series by exploring the first truth: Salvation belongs to the Lord, and what that means for you today
When the multitudes in heaven shout “Salvation belongs to our God,” they are not expressing a theological opinion, they are declaring eternal reality. Only God saves. Salvation is His work, His idea, His initiative, and His accomplishment
“But I will sacrifice to You
With the voice of thanksgiving;
I will pay what I have vowed.
Salvation is of the Lord.” Jonah 2:9
What Is Salvation?
The word salvation means deliverance, rescue, or liberation from danger or judgment. Biblically, it refers to being saved:
- From the penalty of sin (justification),
- From the power of sin (sanctification), and
- Eventually from the presence of sin (glorification)
At its core, salvation is deliverance from sin, death, judgment, and eternal separation from God. It is being rescued from something (sin and its consequences) and unto Someone (relationship with God through Jesus Christ)
But how do we know that salvation truly belongs to the Lord? Let’s walk through Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, and see this truth unfold
Salvation in the Old Testament: God the Deliverer
1. God’s salvation in Genesis 1
The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light” Genesis 1:1-3
We see God’s salvation intervention for the dark, void, and formless earth, which signifies sinfulness in which God couldn’t adhere to. Therefore, He initiates the salvation plan of the earth
2. Salvation in the Garden (Genesis 3)
When sin entered the world through Adam and Eve’s disobedience, God did not abandon humanity. Instead, in Genesis 3, we see the first declaration of the gospel:
“He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:15
This was God’s promise that a Seed from the woman (Jesus) would one day crush the serpent’s head, defeating Satan and restoring mankind
“The Lord God made tunics of skin and clothed them.” Genesis 3:21
God Himself made a blood sacrifice to cover Adam and Eve’s nakedness. This act pointed to the Lamb of God, whose blood would cover the sins of the world (John 1:29)
“He drove out the man… lest he take also from the tree of life.” Genesis 3:24
Even in judgment, God’s mercy is seen. Man was not permitted to live eternally in a fallen state. True eternal life would come through Christ, not the Tree
Even when man failed, God pursued, promised, and provided. That is salvation; God taking the first step toward restoring what was lost
3. Noah’s Ark (Genesis 6–9)
God saw the wickedness of humanity and decided to judge the world. Yet He extended mercy through one man: Noah
“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” Genesis 6:8
“Then the Lord said to Noah, ‘Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous.’” Genesis 7:1
The message that God is the Creator, that sin has consequences, and judgment is coming. In the world today, just as in the days of Noah, people live as they want to live, until the Flood takes them. They never took the time to repent of their wickedness
The ark was God’s plan, not Noah’s invention. God saved Noah and his family
God’s plan of Salvation has been made available in Christ Jesus. would you repent today? Salvation belongs to God
4. Israel at the Red Sea (Exodus 14)
When Pharaoh’s army pursued Israel, they were trapped. There was no human solution. Then God stepped in
“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.” Exodus 14:13
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
God parted the sea, and Israel walked through. Not by their might, but by His power
5. The Judges – Repeated Deliverance
Israel repeatedly turned away from God, but each time, God raised up judges to deliver them
“When the Israelites cried out to the Lord, He raised up for them a deliverer…” Judges 3:9
“Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders.” Judges 2:16
They were not saved because they deserved it, but because God was merciful Over and over, He saved
6. David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)
As the armies of Israel trembled, David declared a powerful truth:
“The battle is the Lord’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:47
“It is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves.”
David knew what many had forgotten: Salvation is not about strength; it’s about trust in the Savior
Salvation in the Psalms & Prophets
“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27:1
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him.” Psalm 62:1
“He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.” Psalm 130:8
Again and again, the psalmists affirm: God is the Savior. Acknowledging that Salvation belongs to God draws us to a deeper worship even in the midst of adversities and weaknesses
Isaiah prophesied this boldly:
“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord Himself, is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2
And:
“Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22 (NKJV)
Salvation in the New Testament: Jesus, the Savior of the World
The Old Testament foreshadowed it. The New Testament fulfilled it. Jesus didn’t come to improve us; He came to save us
1. The Angel’s Announcement
“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
The name Jesus (Yeshua) literally means “The Lord saves”
From the very beginning, His mission was clear: to save
2. Jesus Declares It
“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10
“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:17
John the Baptist declared of Him, He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29)
3. The Cross and the Resurrection (John 19 & 20)
At Calvary, salvation was not earned, but finished
“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” John 19:30
And at the empty tomb, it was sealed with power
“He is not here; He has risen!” Luke 24:6
4. The Apostolic Declaration
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
There’s only one Source. One Savior. One Way
Salvation belongs to our God
Why Does Salvation Belong to God?
It is a gift of grace (Ephesians 2:8–9),
It is made possible by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 9:12).
From the creation of the earth to the Cross, and through to the final redemption, salvation has always been God’s sovereign plan. He initiates, He executes, and He sustains it
1. God Is the Author of the Rescue Plan
Before we ever reached out for God, He reached out to us
“While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
From the Garden of Eden to the Cross of Calvary, salvation has always been God’s initiative. Humanity was lost, but God moved toward us in love. And this is what He is still doing to the dying world today, seeking the hearts of men through the established plan of salvation in Christ Jesus
2. Jesus Paid the Price
The cost of salvation was and still is the precious blood of Jesus,
“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” 1 Peter 1:18–19
Only a sinless Savior could redeem (save) sinful people
3. The Holy Spirit Applies Salvation
It is the Spirit who convicts hearts, draws us to Christ, and seals us with the promise of eternal life (Ephesians 1:13–14)
Every part of salvation is rooted in the triune nature of God: the Father’s will, the Son’s work, and the Spirit’s witness
What This Means for Us
You Can Stop Striving
You cannot save yourself. You were never meant to
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us…” Titus 3:5
Receive Salvation. Rest. Rejoice in the finished work of Christ
Your Story/Testimony Must Point Back to Him
When you testify of your journey, don’t glorify your effort; glorify His mercy. As humans, we quickly forget the salvation of the Lord and ascribe our results and where we are at, to our efforts, and acquired academic knowledge
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,” Psalm 107:2
All the glory goes to Him
There Is Hope for Every Sinner
Because salvation belongs to God, He can save the vilest offender
“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”” Romans 10:13
- Cain’s offense against Abel (Genesis 4:8–10)
- Joseph’s brothers offending him (Genesis 37:18–20, 28)
- The Israelites offending God (Exodus 32:7–8)
- David’s offense with Bathsheba and Uriah (2 Samuel 11:2–4, 14–15)
- Peter’s denial of Jesus (Luke 22:34,61–62)
Because salvation belongs to God, no one is too lost, too broken, or too far gone If He saved you, He can save anyone, even you now, from all your shortcomings
Salvation Cannot Be Claimed by Man (The Danger of Boasting)
“Not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:9
The greatest threat to true salvation is self-righteousness. When we try to take credit, we dishonor the Cross
“Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded” Romans 3:27
Salvation is not:
- By heritage (John 1:13)
- By law-keeping (Galatians 2:16)
- By human wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:21)
- Or by spiritual performance (Matthew 7:22–23)
Kill every seed of spiritual pride. Return to the awe of grace
A Call to Worship and Surrender
When we truly understand that salvation belongs to our God, worship becomes our response and forever posture
We lift our hands not because we’ve achieved something, but because we’ve received everything
We surrender not out of fear, but in gratitude for the One who loved us first
Let Heaven’s Declaration Become Yours
Revelation 19:1 isn’t just for eternity; it’s for today
Salvation is not a reward for the strong; it is a gift for the humble
Let your life declare what heaven is already singing:
“Salvation belongs to our God!
- Say it when you’re tempted to strive
- Declare it when you witness a soul saved
- Remember it when you feel unworthy
- Shout it in your worship, live it in your walk
🙏 Prayer of Response:
Most Loving Father, Oh Lord, I acknowledge that salvation belongs to You. I could never save myself, cannot save either myself or anyone. I thank You for sending Jesus to do what I could not. Thank You for the blood that speaks a better word. I rest in Your finished work, and I give You all the glory. Let my life be a daily thank-you for the gift I’ve received. and let my heart rejoice in the hope of our salvation in You. Oh Lord, use me to share this salvation with others by showing mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen
